How to Prepare Your Home for Winter

Winter is here and it’s time to start preparing your home. Taking the necessary steps to winterize your home will save you from costly repairs, ensure that your family has a comfortable and safe environment, and give you peace of mind. Let’s take a look at some easy ways to get your home ready for the cold season.

Inspect Your Windows and Doors
Check each window and door for any cracks or signs of wear. If you find any, seal them with caulk or weatherstripping to keep out drafts. Don’t forget about sliding windows or doors as these can be some of the most drafty spots in a house! Once sealed, make sure all the locks are working properly and that the catches are tight against their frames so they don’t open while locked.

Check Your Roof
A roof inspection should be done before winter hits – it’s much simpler (and cheaper) to fix problems before they become major issues when snow piles up! Look for missing or damaged shingles, check flashing around chimneys and vents, verify that all gutters are securely attached, and make sure downspouts are directed away from your foundation.

Check Your Heating System
Your heating system should be inspected and serviced each year before winter begins. A service technician can check for any potential issues with your furnace and HVAC system, as well as provide maintenance to ensure they are running efficiently.
