Tennessee recording taxes at a glance
Tennessee charges a realty transfer tax of $0.37 per $100 of the sale price (or value, if greater) when the deed is recorded, plus a mortgage (indebtedness) tax of $0.115 per $100 of the loan amount above the first $2,000. Who pays each is set by your contract. Example: a $300,000 sale carries $1,110 in transfer tax; a $240,000 loan carries about $273.70 in mortgage tax.
